Hello! My name is Joe-Glen Gittao. I am originally from Nairobi, Kenya. I joined Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) in Fall 2001 as a Computer Information Systems major. My ideal goal when I came into the program was to learn about web designing and web applications development. After 4 years in college I have learned for more than I had expected and this software, Nursing School-Student Management System (NS-SMS) is a great example. In my Capstone Project class, my project was create an easy to use software system for the School of Nursing in GSW. As I have graduated from GSW, I am currently seeking a position in web design or web based applications, software or hardware developments. Interested in positions with strong international component; willing to travel. My Skills

| The
School of Nursing in Georgia Southwestern State University has over 300
undergraduate students. Each semester the school receives a great number
of applications. To track the current and potential students, the school
was in need of a system, which should contain a database where information
on potential and current students of the nursing school will be stored.
In addition, this system would be able to generate various reports through
a query. In addition, this system would be able to send email to various
students based on various queries. |

The
Software System: |
||||
| To solve the School of Nursing request, I have created a software called Nursing School-Student Management System (NS-SMS). This software system will have two tables in the database. The information in one of the tables will include; student information such as name, addresses, telephone numbers, program interest, student status, student’s GPA, and the action taken by the nursing school. In the second table, information included will be the same information as the first table but additional information, such as student’s various test scores will be included. To enter information into the database, various forms will be used and to access these different forms, a main form, displayed on the right, will be used to access the various forms through 4 main menus; File, Analysis, Email Reminder, and Help. | ||||
| Forms: | |
| The NS-SMS software consists of three entry forms, six query forms, and two tables in the database. Of the three entry forms, one of the forms called potentialstu (displayed on the left) will be used to enter indivudual student information into one of the tables in the database called tblPotentialStudent. This table will consist of students that have applied to the School of Nursing but have yet to be accepted. The other two forms will be a combination of one form that will be used to store information about the current students in the school to the second table in the database called tblCurrentStundent. Once the information has been entered in the database, the software can be used generate necessary information through two reports. Information that needs to be generated are reports that can illustrate a group of students based on the region and program of interest. Also, a calculation of the graduation rate will be available once information is generated from the database. | |
| Other Features: | |
| One of the goals the School of Nursing would like from this software application is to send emails to students it generates from the queries. This software just does that. With forms such as Insurance Renewal, which queries a report from the database and displays a list of current student who's insurance will be expiring the month of the query an email can be sent to the selected students from the list. Other features include updating information that is already in the database. For example, the updatecurrentstudent form (displayed on the right) will generate a list of students based on the semester and year they entered the program and once the report has been generate a list from the database will be displayed on the datagrid, where information that were needed to be update can be updated through the datagrid and then updated in the database. | |
